Posted on 19 July 2014 at 18:17:05 GMT A little side project while I contemplate the next phase of my GHQ terrain. At the request of Michael at Angel Barracks I'm chronicling the build on his forum, but it applies here as well, I think, since FWC Skirmish is one of the systems I'm contemplating for the game-playery once this baby is complete. The basics: I found 2'-square pre-cut veneer plywood panels for a song at The Home Depot. After assembling a little more material and emptying out my toolbox, I came up with a plan of action. Hot-knife cut foam landforms, using lessons and techniques learned from the ongoing GHQ tile project, wood glue, plaster and putty. And latex housepaint in various colors and layers. The project is underway. Not as versatile as the hexes, I have to admit, but with as strong a visual appeal, and greater durability long-term. Anyone who'd like to read up on my whole whatsit on this project can check the AB Forum: http://angelbarracks.co.uk/forum/viewtopic... |

Posted on 20 July 2014 at 09:25:41 GMT Nice one Mr Average, I think this idea (using 2x2 feet or 60cmx60cm tile) would work well for 6mm WW2 too. One tile should give a good small game in BKC1 or BKC2 using around 300 to 450 points aside, either an infantry action or small recce action. And if this became two interlocked tiles you could increase game size and by 4 tiles you could probably field a battalion or regimental size action in 6mm (1/400 scale)for WW2 using basic HQ plus 9 inf plus probably 1 or more MGs and a mortar and maybe an IG as a rough guide to a battalion. Great quality photos. I look forward to seeing and hearing more. CarlL |

Posted on 20 July 2014 at 21:58:08 GMT Super-flat latex interior paint with brown flocking. I finished the whole thing out with a scatter of green and some "growies" at the base of some of the slopes. |

Posted on 20 July 2014 at 22:45:08 GMT I just finished the AB Forum thread and read that Lioks really good - think you made the right decision re:big open areas and basing scatter terrain separately. Much more flexible, as even if you fight over the same area you can reflect battle damage, new construction, field defences etched at will... |

Posted on 26 July 2014 at 12:49:06 GMT Thanks guys! My buildings arrived from Brigade yesterday. Here they are for scale, with a few vehicles. One potential layout of many - I'm basing the buildings on 0.5mm styrene sheet, individually or in small clusters. The possibilities are quite broad. |

Posted on 26 July 2014 at 16:03:27 GMT Has the look of nomad village and watchtower! with tanks preying on them... CarlL PS Photo gives good sense of scale for 1/300 or 6mm or 1/285. |

Posted on 29 July 2014 at 02:26:54 GMT About half of the buildings seem to have been badly mixed - the resin shed the first coat of primer and turned it into an oily, gunky mess. Deeply disappointing. So, back in the cleaner they go, and we'll take another shot at it; failing that, we'll see what Brigade might do to replace them. |
