Posted on 21 August 2013 at 12:18:22 GMT Just got some 1/300th resin Arab buildings from a vendor who's always got some of this stuff on eBay... they are cheap, but man alive, the ones I got were TINY! I got a pack of 5 houses, all of which are in the flesh not much larger than the footprint of a single 1/300th (modern) tank. I think for only a couple of quid they are probably still decent value, but I was honestly expecting them to be a lot larger ... as in, I could maybe even use them as A/C units to stick on the side of my scratch-built 20mm arab buildings! |

Posted on 21 August 2013 at 17:07:25 GMT Yeah, these look like garden sheds compared to the Timecast stuff I have for Europe.. Now, maybe there's a thought...! |

Posted on 21 August 2013 at 17:44:53 GMT If it's the set that includes a domed building and the fort, they are only meant to be one or two storey adobe-type buildings, so they seem about right to me. I've seen pictures of troops standing on tanks and APCs able to look on the roof of this type of building, so the height seems fine. They aren't suitable for downtown Baghdad or Kabul, but they seem fine to me for an outlying village or even the isolated buildings that were part of the battlefield during many encounters in the western desert up to 1943. They aren't that different in size from the barrios of Latin America either, although they tend to be more bare breeze block than adobe covered, with a corrugated iron roof. Size-wize they are probably the size of a large shed by our standards. I was more worried about the small size of the western European buildings from the same seller. These really are small compared with Timecast or Mainly Military, yet the church in the set is comparable in floor area to the Mainly Military church with steeple, but the internet church has a flat roof tower rather than a steeple so is much shorter. The bridge in the set is just about wide enough to get a Sherman over it, but you wouldn't get a Leopard or Chally across. Cheers Andy |

Posted on 21 August 2013 at 18:14:30 GMT I've got some of them too, (the set with the fort and domed building), and the doors on mine are only 4mm high, so they could be used as large buildings for 3mm gaming but certainly not for 6mm, (and people think mine are small!!). |

Posted on 21 August 2013 at 19:32:29 GMT Hi chaps There must be some batch variation - the doorways on mine are 5-6mm high with the arch on the domed building 9mm. Ignoring the base, a Heroics and Ros DAK soldier could walk in without stooping. Don't know much about casting resin but perhaps the molds aren't always filled properly. Cheers Andy |

Posted on 22 August 2013 at 17:58:41 GMT https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-... One of the eBay Arab houses, next to a Timecast European farm, and an H&R Leopard II (mounted on a 20x40mm base). The house is only marginally longer than the Leopard ! |

Posted on 22 August 2013 at 23:08:57 GMT Looks about right for a shack in N Africa or the Middle East. It's not a town building but a village shack. I suspect if you parked a Leopard II on my drive it would be on next doors as well as sticking out into the road. According to Wicki, a Leopard II is nearly 10m long, that's c. 2m longer than the frontage of my house. It's also 3m high, from the commanders hatch you could look into my bedroom on the first floor if you wanted to. I would say the building to the left of the tank is 3-4 times the height of the Leopard or 9 to 12 m high, that's a three storey building and then some. Cheers Andy |

Posted on 03 September 2013 at 11:10:19 GMT I've got a couple of this seller's buildings on my ebay Watch list - I'm just building up my heavy division for CWC but don't have any 6mm buildings yet. I'm glad to see they turn out alright once painted! I think I'll definitely be buying a set or two of European buildings but for the Arab/North Africa buildings which are quite 'square' and flat-topped, I'm going to go ahead and try making my own - if I can get round to using my casting supplies I may try selling them. |
