Posted on 27 November 2010 at 23:09:25 GMT I am planning to start on some Italian terrain soon but need help with a couple of points:- 1. I know that the terrain should include numerous small vineyards, orchards and olive groves but in general were the fields enclosed and if so what by? 2. In the area of the Gustav line particularly the Liri valley rather than the mountains, and (separately) Ortona, how green is the land in Autumn and Spring. Many terrain boards show a dry scrub landscape but most of the fighting in these areas took place up to June '44 or in the case of Ortona November/December '43 and the issue of mud is well known. Many thanks Nick |

Posted on 28 November 2010 at 08:40:15 GMT Nick, This is going to sound odd but my suggestion would be to pop to your local library and/or remainder bookshop and look for Italian cookbooks! I have one, large format book called Italy the Beautiful that's full of pictures of the Italian countryside. Just make sure to pick photos from the region you're interested in. Richard |

Posted on 30 November 2010 at 17:02:39 GMT Nick, I visited Cassino in December 05. If you're interested I could send you some phots. I seem to remember lots of bare rock, very light grey in colour. Scrubby thorny hedges and stone walls. The fields in the valley were quite green. The high ground around the monastery was horrible thorn and rock. The sort of stuff that leaves you naked and bleeding after 100 yds. Anzio was flat as a dab, and I remember little of it. The battlefield has been built on and there wasn't much to see. Hope it helps, let me know if you'd like a couple of phots. Rgds, Si |

Posted on 01 December 2010 at 22:47:16 GMT Anyway terrain in Italy has quite the same features of french terrain with fields with a sort of normandy bocage but few dense, without earth-wall and little woods with low trees but impenetrable and intransitable for all type of troop. Vineyards and olive groves are not always present. In some part of central Italy the flat terrains are not of large dimension because the nature of terrain is undulated with a series of low hills with few o without trees. The olive grove are like orchard but more open. In the plains there are often ditch inside a field or like border between fields. The street in Italy during WW-II are not large and were often without asphalt but with Hedgerows and trees on sides |

Posted on 02 December 2010 at 09:30:29 GMT Ah, as I thought the email "at" sign, the "a" in a circle, won't type on the forum for some reason. Snyway it's the usual linking sign in an email, not sure how else to describe it?? |

Posted on 02 December 2010 at 22:54:43 GMT Salve Barbarian, giocherei molto volentieri, ho pezzi in 6, 10 e anche qualcosa in 20mm. A Roma frequento l'ARMS anche se lì non giocano molto BKC. Io ad ogni modo lo considero, tra quelli che ho provato (Command decision, Spearhead, Kampfgruppe commander),il più giocabile. |
