I'm curious why the US M-551 Sheridan is not a Recce vehicle. Its official designation was Armored Reconnaisance Vehicle, it was assigned to armored cavalry regiments. It seems odd that its not a recce vehicle in the US 46+ list.

Thats a bit of an apples to oranges comparison isn't it? Your talking about main battle tanks and heavy armor that just happen to be in recon battalions, the Sheridan was built to be a lightly armored, air-droppable reconnaisance vehicle and perform the recon role. Granted its a crappy vehicle and doesn't really do anything very well, but then so is the PT-76 and it is rated as recce.

Sorry to hijack my own thread but that touches on another question I had about the online battlegroup builder. In another section of the book it mentions that a command stand can have its rating increased by 1 if you spend extra points for the ability.

Is there a way with the online battle builder to do either of these upgrades?

No, you can't do online.

There's an Isreali Armd brigade on the Golan in 1973 with recce company of 11 Centurions - not a jeep in sight. I'd be inclined to treat as recce support, or perhaps recce for the extra 20pts - but it has it's restrictions - no fire in the command phase etc... Bit of a waste of a good gun?

No 'big gun' capability, but some sort of short-range 'bee-hive' anti-personel ammo instead (for self-defense).

As they are light aluminum armour, relatively fast, designed to be air-dropped and also amphibious (to a point) I can see the arguement for a recce version.
