"Berlin 1945" Bengt von zur Mühlen
Can´t say if there is a english Translationen but I like this book. About 500 pages if a mix of reports of witness to the history, documents and course of Action.
There is the complete defenceplan of the capital, even with the phonenumbers of the HQs! Problem was that there were no regulare troops left.
But best are this witness Reports showing really surreal situations!
You are at a recce mission. Russian snipers firing at you and very heavy artfire forcing you to jump and crawl. And when you meet whem- a group of Berlin housewifes. They scold you "Unbelievable at last a german soldier! We want to go to the bakery! You have to help us!"- "Ok! Always do what I do!"
Looking for replacements. "Where must be Volkssturm in this cellar. Go and get some!" Indeed the cellar filled up with them sitting around. Commander of Volkssturm was drunken so much that he only could slurring. "You can take what you want!"
