Posted on 25 April 2013 at 21:44:51 GMT Another book by Robert Kershaw, author of the excellent 'Tank Men' and 'It Never Snows In September', amongst others. This is a history of airborne combat, from the first experience with parachutes, via the inter-war period (Soviets jumping without parachutes) of experimentation. He covers most of the WW2 airborne escapades very well, although I would have liked to have read more about the Japanese use of Paras. He also covers Vietnam quite extensively, especially the French war, and contrasts it quite well with Suez. Overall, a good book, interesting and harrowing at times, although not quite as compelling as 'Tank Men' Worth a look, especially if the whole Para thing interests you. |
