"The Gathering Dead" by Stephen Knight. I have enjoyed this authors novels, which combine authentic military detail with a zombie apocalypse. Would not normally mention this but for the fact the first novel, "The Gathering Dead" has been made FREE on Kindle this week. Great inspiration for modern/horror skirmish games.

I grabbed this when you posted and then read the novella and the two follow ups. I really enjoyed them. They had a nice authentic feel to them (as well as zombie books can!) and even though a few people complain about the 'super zeds' and the laser weapon I don't think they ruined the story at all.

Worth a look on Kindle.

It's got me thinking zombies now so I should really be cursing you! Smile

Hooah! Just to corrupt you further, have a look at "The Remaining" Series by DJ Molles and "Tooth and Nail" by Craig Dilouie for well written "military v infected/fast zombies" tales.

I might just dig them out (so to speak!). Since I've been Kindling on my tablet I've actually read much more stuff..

Cheers

You're welcome. Would be interested to know how you find them. Dilouie's other books "Infected" and "The Killing Floor" take the horror beyond fast zombies and add Lovecraftian type monsters to the mix (but still have solid military details). Beware though, the author has really thought deeply about the consequences of an apoclypse and some sections are very grim indeed.

The Kindle app + tablet has certainly increased the amount of reading I do, plus with other apps (eg Goodreader on the Ipad)is great for instantly referencing rule books/QRFs. Also apps such as Hex-Map Pro (again on the ipad) allow full skirmish games to be played out.

Best
