This is a bit of a crosspost, so apologies if you have already seen it. I recommend a book called 'A Lonely Kind of War', it's the story of a USAF OV-10 Bronco pilot during Vietnam. It's available on Kindle, and is well worth the punt. He's a great writer, really evoking the experience and the lifestyle.
Enjoy. Smile

Based on the earlier post recommendation I got myself a copy. It is certainly an excellent read - I'm c. 2/3rds through it and I find it fascinating. It's an eye-opener to see what was required to bring in an air strike on a particular position, often within metres of friendly troops on the ground. Also a good read of what it is like to be young (-ish, in the 60s the author was in his 30's), away from family and making friends in the very transitional environment of military life in wartime.

Seconded, just hit "Journeyman". Really a complex job, co-ordinating multiple air & often arty, within meters of friendly troops, in pretty much total cover!

Snake Pilot is another good one, about a Huey Cobra pilot in the same conflict.
