Hey all
it's always hard for me, personally, to start a new project. Investment in figures, painting time, scenery etc...mean other projects always take second (third...forth...) place and the pile gets bigger. Incidentally, though, that's changed quite a bit since I've started collecting 1/600 troops. The costs are (relatively!) irrelevant, with battlegrops costing $50 inc shipping and painting time limited to one/two evenings for results I feel I can be proud of. And CWC being my system of choice the cost of rules issue has also been comfortably dealt with.
My new project is more out of pure historical interest than anything else. My Diploma course required me to do a research essay on Ayatollah Khomeini, a character I knew absolutely nothing about, and that's inspired me to study the Iraq/Iran Wars more in depth.
Cue then a request for info from y'all if you've any advice/links/comments to share on how to get the project from my mind to a gaming table soon
OOBs, battle links, resources are sought to determine what to order and how to organize the forces to delve into a study of this historical conflict.
Thanks for any help, guys!
S.

Hi S

there are (were?) some great after action reports filed on the downloads page of this site.

I decided to research the subject and i read 'The Lessons of Modern War, Volume II, The Iran-Iraq War' by Cordesman & Wagner. It was a very interesting read but it showed that the war is tactically rather tedious with repeated attacks in the same places vs heavy fortifications. There was very little mobile war even given all the armour potentially available.

Not that you have to play it like it was of course! I think it'd be fine as a historical starting point for an a-historical campaign.
