Posted on 13 February 2013 at 04:55:12 GMT Although vehicles do move faster on roads than cross country, they also have to adopt a road column formation to travel on the road. Normally road movement would only be used to get units to the combat zone and would be off table for a BKC/CWC game. Traveling down a road in column when you are about to enter combat is not a recommended procedure. Even if you are not near the engagement zone a road column can be vulnerable to an airstrike. Though all vehicles could respond to something on their flanks the platoon would not be able to have all elements fire at a target to its front. Your platoon would have to take time to spread out into a combat formation when it changes from a road column. When traveling cross country the platoon would be in a battle formation and be spread out allowing as many elements as possible to respond to an enemy threat. I have played tabletop games korps commander and omg rules which covered different types of formations, but keeping track of which units were in what type of formation didn't help the game. |
