Posted on 26 September 2009 at 13:47:34 GMT This came up in a game between The Git (Steve) and Ryan last night: if a unit is mving and firing (stabilisers) and the opponent calls for opp fire and suppresses the unit can it fire because it was going to or not? We guessed not. |

Posted on 26 September 2009 at 15:11:41 GMT AFAIK if it was the unit moving that initiated the opp fire, and it was supressed by said fire, then the move stops and the unit is supressed from that point on. In other words they would not be able to fire in that turn. |

Posted on 26 September 2009 at 15:31:17 GMT Stabilised vehicles can either “move up to half-distance, *then* fire or fire, *then* move up to half-distance” [my emphasis] (page 21 - Stabilisation). As both moving and firing provoke opportunity fire (again, page 21 – Opportunity Fire) there would be two chances for a given enemy unit to interrupt with opportunity fire - either after the firing or after the moving. If a unit is suppressed by the opportunity fire provoked by the first ‘thing’ it did (either moving or firing) it wouldn’t get to do the second thing it had planned (firing or moving). That’s how I play it anyways… |

Posted on 26 September 2009 at 16:29:19 GMT This is not an opp fire question, but a stabilization one. to move and shoot in a turn does require two orders correct? |

Posted on 02 October 2011 at 16:27:48 GMT Just want to check the FAO/FACs cannot call Opportunity Fire. Can't find specific reference in the book so we have assumed that Opp Fire only applies to 'manoeuvre' type forces e.g MBTs, IFVs, ATGW, Dismtd Inf etc and excludes Command Units and 'Off Table' assets. |

Posted on 02 October 2011 at 16:39:52 GMT Yep - you're right there Julian; the statement in Opportunity Fire [p21] is that "All the rules for firing apply" - take this with the fact that Attack stats for commands "represent anti-aircraft fire" [p53] and are only therefore used in response to air support & there you have it. |
