Hi guys,
I am still working my way through the rule book and I have seen (under the artillery section) that mortars are specifically not allowed on the board (along with rockets and naval artillery).

Is this really correct or is it only for 'extra heavy' mortars used as artillery (like 120mm)?

I was rather expecting mortars attached to infantry units (like the mortar platoon in a mech inf battalion) to be an on board unit specifically. Have I missed something?

Yes - there's two sets of mortars! Off board ones (usually 120mm or upwards) which function like normal tube artillery in rules terms, and then on table that function as a normal fighting stand but can be called in by other on table elements (i.e. use their line of sight).
