Posted on 23 November 2013 at 13:15:26 GMT Hello all, This may or may not be a silly question, but I think it's a valid one! I was wondering if a unit on the edge of a forest has any kind of LOS restriction to an observing enemy unit. By which I mean, is there a limit to the range at which a unit can de detected on the edge of high area terrain? I had this thought when looking at the rules as units inside can only be detected at 5cm for infantry and 10cm for armour in high area terrain and all units at 20cm in low area terrain. I haven't been playing it this way but just had the thought as you might assume that the unit on the edge of the forest are in cover. Thanks! Tom |

Posted on 24 November 2013 at 14:01:59 GMT Hey Panzer_nut, I was wondering if you'd be interested in getting together for a game at some point, as you responded to my Derby players request a few weeks ago? If you're interested then send me an email at: tom.gospel@live.com Silly forum doesn't appear to have a PM function! Pete, if you're listening, please add PM's (I could however be really stupid and just have missed it!). Cheers! Tom |

Posted on 24 November 2013 at 17:00:40 GMT You can be seen if you can see out, at the normal in cover spotting range - 5cm for infantry etc. so if you're an infantry stand within 5cm of the edge you see out as normal, and can be spotted at 5cm. Panzerfaust range |

Posted on 24 November 2013 at 17:37:43 GMT If the unit hasn't fired or moved along the edge of the terrain, then it will be seen using the normal LOS rules. Once it fires/moves along the edge, it can be seen at any distance (100cm?) |

Posted on 24 November 2013 at 22:33:36 GMT Okay so between toxicpixie and Kiwidave, I understand that, unit's can be detected up to their inside terrain detection distances if they remain unfired/un-moved on the edge of high area terrain. Once they've fired and have been detected they are visible to all in LOS. Is this correct? Thanks guys! Tom |

Posted on 25 November 2013 at 10:06:01 GMT That's right, yep - soon as you're spotted (whether by revealing yourself through firing or someones got close enough) then you're spotted for anyone in LoS. |

Posted on 25 November 2013 at 11:46:39 GMT It means when playing against lots or artillery, you don't reveal by firing until you are sure of getting kills or have been spotted, as next turn there will be lots of hate unleashed, assuming the enemy FAO is awake. Suffered this in a couple of games recently playing against 1980's Soviets and 1944 British. It also pays to have a bit of distance between long range AT that fire and anything that you want to survive, like dismounted infantry and short range AT as you don't want them stuck in the blast/scatter radius of the guns that do fire and are then legitimate targets. All part of the rich complexity of the game! |
