Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and have been playing a few CWC games whilst still learning the rules. I'm wondering why command units can't be targeted as they still have attack and defence stats?
My guess is that a command unit on the table only represents a commander somewhere in the vicinity of the battle issuing orders rather than an actual HQ following up the battle?
Do any of you guys play command units as regular units, allowing them to take direct fire and engage enemy units if needed?
Thanks in advance!

There is an option for using commanders as "regular units", in BKCII and FWC, but that's not in the older CWC!

Commanders are only attacked by indirect area fire & the odd command blunder (hence they need defence & hits values), but their attack ratings are only for AA fire - they represent the general AA fire your battlegroup can put out.

I view the commander stands as not just the commander and his staff, but the focus for the units logistics and communications etc. but others may differ Smile

You pretty much summed it up - they are abstractions of command and control.

Snipers can target command stands though? Although they can only suppress not kill.

Or have we been playing this wrong....Smile

Yes, snipers can target command stands in order to suppress them. And hit on 4+, I believe which makes them *really* nasty!

Again, only by snipers (or by being caught under arty/air templates).

That's coz the Bronco/Auster counts as transport for the FAO, which is about right. As for the Auster, my Flankpanzer pop guns weren't lucky enough to get the kill. If you'd come in reach of the quad 20mm it would have been a different story.

Might be worth trying a scenario where the Broncos/Austers/Hueys, etc. are treated as the FAO and therefore not engaged by AAA assets. They really would be able to swan about at will, which should be OK in scenarios where modern industrial nations are fighting undeveloped countries or where air supremacy is absolute (Germans 1940/1; GB/US 1944/5).

They look cool on the table too.

Cheers
