Posted on 24 September 2012 at 05:37:19 GMT Hi folks, I've had about four games of CWC so far and it is become clear to me and my opponent that the amount of terrain on the table has a huge effect on the game. We are playing Cold War West Germans v Soviets and it is clear that the Nato player (me) has an advantage when there is less terrain on the table due to the greater range of Leopard 2's guns. We are considering adding a house rule for terrain generation. Looking at the rule book for some guidance it recommends no more than one item of terrain per 50cm^2. Now does this mean a square 50cm x 50cm (= 2500cm^2) or a square 7.07cm x 7.07cm (= 50cm^2). The former would allow for about 6 items of terrain on a traditional 6'x4' table. The latter would seem to be to make for a very crowded table. I am working on a system based on a set of cards where there are several cards for each terrain type (farmland (low terrain), grassland (open), grassed hill, wooded hill, woods, shrubland). The idea is that the defender and the attacker select a number of of terrain cards, which are then shuffled and dealt to created the layout of the table. For example if the table is divided into 6 squares and the scenario allows the defender to have most of the choice of the location of the battle then the defender is allowed to pick 5 cards and the attacker 3. This is a ratio of 4-2 plus an extra card each to randomise things a bit. Any ideas, what to other do to create a table layout of a club game? |
