Re-reading the rules and some of the earlier threads on this Forun I can now see that to get the +1 for all units undertaking the same action, you need to order all troops under your command except suppressed and transport.

Questions
: If some of the troops are out of range of any taget, does that stop the rest from claiming the +1 or do they count it beacuse all are firing who can??

: Transport is excluded but I assume that they can be ordered to move along with everyone else?

I am asking as my Tank Battalion on Saturday had 9 T64 and 1 ZSU 23/4. we played the rule wrong on saturday but I would assume that an order to fire to the whole formation would result in all those within range firing (with +1 to the command roll), and the rest just sitting still.

Again, thoughts?

As I recall you exclude Recce and AA as well.

If some are out of range then you DO NOT get the +1 - since they are not all doing the same thing. Some a clogging the airwaves requesting order clarifications and moaning that they're not in range! You need to keep your T64s in a nice bttn line (just like in the manuals!)

I don't remember transport being excluded. Take a BMP bttn for example. You're better off fielding 2 HQs. One for the inf and one for the BMPs. This ties nicely with Soviet trainig where the BMPs might go to a flank to provide covering fire while the inf assault.

Unarmoured transport isn't included, but armoured & armed stuff like BMPs, M113s etc are.

I think RAW means as Dr Dave says - it includes everything within the formation, wherever on the table it may be, however awkward it may be. So dropping off mortars to give supporting fire works well, but splitting a formation into two groups (a fire group and a manoeuvre group) not so well...

Making Rigid formations small and homogeneous as possible eases the problem - you can have two formations each under a separate HQ, one firing, one moving, each at +1, rather than one group under one HQ trying to do both at normal values.

Does the Fixed Formation have to fire at the same unit/stand?

Or can the "FIRE" order to a fixed formation still allow them to pick targets at will to fire at? (i.e. my nine T72 do not have to fire at the same stand)

No, you can split your fire however you like, the restriction is on the type of order not the execution of it (same with movement!).
