I see there is a seperate line for Tanks armed with ATGM like the Songster. How do I model this on the battlefield, ignore them??, one tank in three?? Any suggestions??

If you're going for historical Orbats atone in three would be the 'norm' rationalising them into a single stand at company-ish level.

Alternatively you could just ignore them, assuming either they've already been shot dry, are not used as the terrain is so close and past that stage of the battle, they just don't have them or have orders to close and engage not snipe.

I normally don't bother with ATGWs on the Soviet tanks, as taking advantage of their range on a cluttered battlefield is a pain and I'd rather squeeze another tank out the points Smile

Difficult to represent modern Soviet tanks with ATGW/M as missiles were stowed inside and launched/fired through the barrel. Of course this is not the case with IFVs that tend to mount and launch over barrel or on turret. I would suggest for your tank bases you add small labels to the underside of the base making it invisible to opposition until they have fired and then they have to battletrack them as high pri targets. I tend to use all same (vehicles/inf with upgrades) in a 'manoeuvre group' for simplicity.

I find Soviet MBTs with LR ATGW/Ms are quite useful as it allows them to engage some targets whilst closing to main gun range. Normally Soviet tanks are outranged and outgunned by NATO tanks and ATGW/Ms reduce some of the NATO advantages. Once in main gun range Soviet MBTs cannot use ATGW/Ms (see P24 ATGW first para penultimate sentence). IFVs can only use ATGW/Ms in Opp Fire (see P24 ATGW first para last sentence). I also find MBT/IFV ATGW/M s are also useful against helos equipped with same.

Not used them against attack choppers - despite manufacturer claims of it being effective, I'm really not convinced, especially as no one actually practised it in training (that I know of!).

Generally there's enough terrain down when I play that actually making much use of the longer ranges is harder work than just getting to gun range.

They would be a better investment than the usual BRDM with AT5 that my opponents buy for the Sovs, though - they just get KO'd almost immediately!

Well, having fielded 6 of the critters in a recent game, I can't complain about them. They wiped the floor with my opponent's Abrams quite effectively, to the point I feel the need to downgrade them a bit Grin

Ah yes, that was the US moving cross wise along the front line, exposing flanks on half his Abrams to your fire group Grin

I had to chuckle at that, my usual experience of Abrams is staring down the wrong end of their gun barrels!
