In several army lists I saw people had paid for HQ's as combat units, for example people had M1A1 (HQ) would this have the stats of an M1 but be able to issue orders or is it just the model?

I think they just used the model.

Yeah I have made HQ models for each of my battalions using the same models as the battalion, its purely a looks thing. I think a command base with a T-10 on it looks better with a battalion of T-10s then one with a few officer figures on it.But it just issues orders.

I have my Warpac command stands based with a Gaz 'jeep', a few command type figures and then either a BTR/BMP model for Motor Rifle units, or a T-55/64 etc for tank battalions.

For CO stands I tend to add an AA weapon and use a truck or two rather than an AFV to differentiate them. Bit more awkward to distinguish them from non-mechanized infantry but that's not come up in game yet Smile

In game terms, they're all the same - a standard Command Stand with CV (whatever) & the usual 4, save 6, move 40 etc.

Just being devil’s advocate but wouldn't most low level commanders have their own tank. That and the Tank of their XO could be enough be represented

Ye-es, but under the purview of the rules I'd say add another fighting stand if you think their combat potential is significant. In my eyes the actual command stand isn't just/only/at all the actual OiC & staff but is also/instead the logistics focus, where the higher command is ordering the concentration of effort to be directed from, where the POL & ammo is headin out from etc etc Smile

I just think its aesthetically pleasing to have my tanks commanded by a tank not a parcel of infantry and trucks.

Fair point, my tank HQs tend to be T-55 plus truck & blokes pointing at maps, mech HQs BTR/M577 plus truck & blokes etc Smile The little mini diorama makes them stand out so I don't forget and try and shoot someone with them Smile
