Hi,
Sorry if this has been discussed to death already, but couldn't find anything in the forum answering this question which came up yesterday after Soviet Arty blasted eight Bundeswehr batteries into smithereens.

Situation - A FAO requests CB fire from multiple off-board Arty units, and the opponent had used multiple units in his turn. The rules (CWC) state that all the firing units are targeted by the CB fire. BKC2 states that a single firing unit is targeted.

Question - Which way do you play: Do ALL the CB units fire at ALL the targets one by one, in our case something like 28 dice per target unit?

Cheers, Aksu

PS I was starting to lean towards a solution where a successful CB request in "spots" all the arty used in previous turn, and the CB arty can be allocated as the player desires against these spotted targets, but only fires once.

One enemy artillery unit is targeted by the nominated guns.

If the command roll is successful, the FAO may target another battery that fired, using any unused artillery etc.

Don't forget the modifiers on the batteries able to be used, the modifiers for batteries targeted. Especially the BW should be fielding SP artillery - normally 56 to hit, but they also have 'shoot 'n scoot', making it a 6 only to hit them.

The Russians only have FAOs with a CV of 6. HQs and COs may not be used. Mortars and rockets may not be used.

I find it strange that the BW artillery suffered - the odds are against them being very effective.

In an old thread I hard-copied ("Counter-battery fire query", May '08) Pete acknowledged that, whilst it's what the rules say, having each counter battery engage every opposing battery that fired last turn was too effective and they should engage only one. This change never reached the errata, however (though I suggest you use it in any case).

Thanks guys, we played according to what the original CWC rules say, and the results were rather spectacular... Will play according to the BKC2 rules in the future.
Cheers,
Aksu
