I´m kinda KISS-fan so the idea of HQ:s doing the work of FAO sounds good. But, after failing a command roll as HQ, can that command still roll as FAO for artillery, and vice versa? TIA, V-P

We take the call for artillery as a normal order. If it fails, no more orders for that HQ.
It's the downside of not paying for a dedicated FAO.
You can't use HQs to bring in counter battery either, as I found out recently :(

In my Vietnam playtesting I have yet try to use the HQ to call in artillery. They seem busy enough commanding their troops. The FAO has no problems calling in any of the artillery support.
Historically HQ units were calling artillery. In the historic scenario I am preparing, there was a FAO present and was busy calling in support as well. Maybe I could split the support, some are dedicated to the FAO and some dedicated to only the HQ's.
If there are 2 players on the US side with 2 HQ each and 3 105mm artillery support units available. Do the players fight over the artillery they want to call in? I'm not sure what to do about that.
