Posted on 22 August 2009 at 05:01:46 GMT I've started painting up some Iraqis for CWC. The reference pictures I have found on the net make them look very pale. Here is one I've painted (I've painted 9 T-62s, 1 HQ and 1 ZSU-23-4 for my first battalion, 1000 points). http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa106/Oddbob... How does it look? I've basecoated GW Foundation Khemri brown, wetbrushed bleached bone and then dry brushed a mix of 50/50 bleached bone and morrow white. I'll apply a magic wash as an end step. Should I ive it a Devlan mud glaze or wash, and would that darken it too much? |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 09:42:22 GMT Does look a bit bright, but the real thing is very pale, I saw an uparmouerd one a Bovy years ago, very pale sand. Could do with being a bit darker, but that could be the photography. IanS |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 13:42:30 GMT http://news.webshots.com/album/32760084yjbYWV This is what I was going from, which is very pale. I'll give it a light Devlan mud wash when I'm finishing it off them. |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 14:03:30 GMT That T-62 looks pretty light. Most pictures I have seen of Iraqi armor is much darker - a brownish sandy color. I have some Iraqi stuff done up based on pictures of what I have seen, will try and post a few pictures later if I can. |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 14:16:49 GMT Could be the guys at Bovvy have been getting the paint out one of those photos show what maybe a Centurion (a L7 armed tank anyway) in the background in a similar colour. The upgraded T-55 and BRDM-2 at Bovvy certainly are a more yellow sand shade. |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 14:42:16 GMT http://www.militarypictures.info/armour/t-72.jp... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FileerelictAsadB... Here is a video where what look like Iranian militia manage to take out an Iraqi T-55 with Aks (they manage to panic the crew into bailing out with small arms fire). Again very light scheme. http://exiledonline.com/amazing-combat-video-fr... Having had a look around I found this site. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread... Page 5 gives us pictures of Iranian M48 and M48A5s. There are also pictures of M4 Shermans and 105mm Shermans. I know M4s have been errata'd into the Iranian list, but have M48s and M48A5s? And the Iranians seem to have used exactly the same pale scheme on some of their tanks. This is going to make games really confusing. |

Posted on 22 August 2009 at 14:44:38 GMT Photo of the T-55 http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:T-55AD_1... When was this tank captured? Was it GW2? I didn't think the Iraqis were using T-55s with ERA in the Iran/Iraq war. |

Posted on 23 August 2009 at 02:08:02 GMT Tank is definatly from Desert Storm, when i saw it it was not on display, but parked outside, still with a few war scars on it, and not I suspect repainted. IanS |

Posted on 23 August 2009 at 02:19:56 GMT It looked genuine to me. I thought it looked about as bashed-about as any tank could be when I first saw it at Bovvy a few years back. |

Posted on 23 August 2009 at 14:08:52 GMT Your pic Oddbob isn't great - looks a bit washed-out & of course is contrasting drastically with the dark base...from your description of what you've done though, I'd be tempted to give a wash of Devlan Mus - but thinned 50:50 - and then re-highlight... You can always refer to the CWW rulebook for some nicely painted Iraqi armour |

Posted on 24 August 2009 at 03:58:34 GMT We've got an Iraqi BMP1 from GW1. I'd say that it is pretty pale, closest match might be vallejo 976 "BUFF". Interstingly it's NOT all BUFF, some very well defined sections of the mudguards are still in Russian green. |

Posted on 25 August 2009 at 11:26:08 GMT OK, now washed with a 50/50 Devlan Mud/water mix and a coat of magic wash. Here are better pictures as well. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa106/Oddbob... http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa106/Oddbob... Any better? |

Posted on 25 August 2009 at 12:08:24 GMT Cheers. I've discovered that among my swapsies I've got ten chieftains, 6 M60s and 3 scorpions, so I'll be doing two Iranian armour battalions next. |
