Posted on 06 May 2017 at 09:11:21 GMT Hi, Anybody know which Centurion AVRE is on the H&R and Scotia sites. Looking at getting both the 165mm and 105mm versions. Cheers Richard P |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 09:36:56 GMT HI Richard There is a pic of the H&R one in the modern British gallery. Hard to tell from the plc but I think it's the one with the 165mm from the shape of the barrel. Not one their best models. Cheers Steve |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 09:45:34 GMT Looking at the picture and comparing it with the Centurion model it looks like it's the 165mm version. Have to ask Andy K for some spare 105mm turrets. Cheers Richard P |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 12:30:42 GMT I've got a couple of the H&R version and it isn't up to the usual spec. I'd always assumed it was a 165mm based on the shortish stubby barrel, which doesn't allow the turret to fit snugly over the top of the front blade. Not seen the Scotia one in the flesh, but might have to experiment. You don't need too many for 32nd - off hand I can't remember how many I used, but thinking about it I only made up a detachment to allocate out locally. Fiat GR-1s arrived safely, marvellous little models, thanks. I may let Ian have his if he behaves (no chance of that then). Cheers, Andy |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 13:32:17 GMT No chance of that mate I am working on the BAOR OOB from the 1985nl Orbat site. Great info. So I am doing 1 x 165mm and 1 x 105mm for the 26 & 31 Sqns and 1 x 165mm for 77 Sqn. Plus I need to scratchbuild one of the 'Willich' Chieftains. Picture of one from Micro Armour Mayhem site at the bottom. 26 & 31 Sqns (each) - 9x CHIEFTAIN AVLB (6x No.8 Bridges & 5x No.9 Bridges), 5x SCAMMELL CRUSADERS (for the No. 9 Bridges), 6x CENTURION AVRE 165 (with 165mm Demolition gun), and 3x CENTURION AVRE 105 (with 105mm tank gun). 77 Sqn- 9x CHIEFTAIN AVLB (4x No.8 Bridges & 6x No.9 Bridges), 5x SCAMMELL CRUSADERS (for the No. 9 Bridges), 6x CENTURION AVRE 165 (with 165mm Demolition gun), and 4x CHIEFTAIN AVRE (The “Willich” Chieftains) Cheers Richard P |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 20:04:33 GMT Probably the best your get with the 105 AVRE is to take a late Centurion 105 turret and glue it to a AVRE hull. |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 20:26:22 GMT Looking at the H&R one on their gallery I think it's a bit of a hybrid. The gun barrel looks too long for a 165mm Demo gun - photos of the real beast show that it doesn't project past the front of the hull whereas that H&R one looks like it would. On the other hand I believe that the 105mm AVRE was fitted with a mine plough not a dozer blade. The only picture I can find of a British 105mm AVRE is here and it is from exactly the wrong angle for this discussion http://coldwargamer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05... |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 20:30:52 GMT According to Wiki (but quoting a Jane's as a source) the 105mm AVREs were converted Cent AOP vehicles, with standard L7 105mm gun, fitted with track-width mine ploughs. |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 20:36:07 GMT Thanks Andy so I will have to make some mine ploughs for the 105mm and I should be ok reducing the length of the barrel for the 165mm. Cheers Richard P |

Posted on 06 May 2017 at 21:47:41 GMT They definitely did mine rollers and dozer blades which could be glued to the front of the vehicle or made into a little sabot element to add to an existing model. I seem to remember the ploughs as well when I was looking to put together the French engineers, but they didn't use ploughs at the time. Used the dozer blades on my AMX-VCI, which were also ex-Skytrex. Cheers, Andy |

Posted on 07 May 2017 at 10:42:17 GMT The Trojan AVRE *should* have mine ploughs on it. H&R make one but I can't find a picture. Alternatively...GHQ make an Abram with mine ploughs...if you can afford to take out a mortgage for them |

Posted on 07 May 2017 at 11:26:55 GMT I'm sure I have a picture somewhere of the H&R one. I think Ian Armstrong sent a picture of the master. I will have a look, but i'm sure it had a mine plough so worth asking Andy Kirk. Cheers Richard P |

Posted on 07 May 2017 at 11:49:05 GMT I don't think I want to convert the toddler, Richard - t'othernhalf is worried she'll catch nerdish as it is! But the AVRE would be good |
