To try and bulk out my infantry I bought some main force miniatures however they are based in 2's and 3's. I know we usually go with 4 per base. Ideas on a postcard please.

All my Mainforce Brits and French are based one group as cast per base, or occasionally I put an sfmg or IATW stand on as well (did this for the French and W Germans, didn't need it for the Brits). For the ATGM stands (Milan etc) stick a team on a smaller base. Mortars tend to go on a slightly larger square base so they fit on. A stand of infantry is a stand of infantry - don't get too hung up on how many figures, you can't really see them to count them when you stand over the table. When those bally NATO chaps start ripping into them, you'll have bigger worries.

Cheers, Andy

Is there a 'usual' as far as infantry goes?

For Nato - I tend to put 4 or 5 for Elites (including specials like Engineers) and then between 5-7 for Regulars and a larger number for Conscripts. But I base them all wide on 40mm frontages & 20mm deep. Likewise I base their transport on the same frontage bases (40mm) as that way they de-bus in front of them.

My Infantry Supports are on 20mm frontages by 30mm deep.

My specialist ATGW weapons (Milan, Cobra, or RCLRs) and AA (both man-pack & armoured) are all on 40mm square bases.

HQ's are also 40 x 40mm with CHQ on 60mm x 60mm

But there is no standard way (in my experiance).
Most of my Warsaw Pact stuff is on 30mm x 30mm for vehicles and my infantry on 30mm x 20mm.

I just left mine as they came, and magnetized the underneath of the metal bases for storage and transport

Look great. I do like the Mainforce infantry. How did you magnetise them?

There are magnetic sheets you can buy ,cut to size then you just peel back the backing to stick them on.

I know, seen them, tried it. Failed. Wondered how someone's whose looked good did it.

Tip.

I glued the sheet onto the figures with superglue before base coating them, and trimmed it to fit once it had stuck.

A bit laborious, but worth it. The sticky on the sheet won't stick the uneven metal bases without glue too
