Posted on 07 October 2015 at 18:43:19 GMT Following much Googling and searching of forums I've been looking at what 'green' to use for my Brits. I finally settled on Vallejo Brown Violet(BV). Chieftain on left painted BV, black wash, heavy dry brush of BV, add black stripes, highlight edges with light grey. Add mud etc... One on the right had the black wash done AFTER the black stripes were added. I think I prefer the one on the left... A |

Posted on 07 October 2015 at 23:50:17 GMT Left is definitely better. I used Vallejo WW2 Russian Uniform for mine, after a lot of trial and error. |

Posted on 08 October 2015 at 00:49:02 GMT Cheers chaps. I almost used Russian Uniform as it is very similar. I think I'll just do the unit and see how they come out! A |

Posted on 08 October 2015 at 20:23:49 GMT The left is much better, but their is one golden rule. The smaller scale your models are the more you may highlight else the models will look to dark. A good tip is to paint your model entirely with shades and highlight and then apply a filter with very thinned down wash or a special made filter. At the moment I use AK Interactive (they are al little more transparent then Vallejo) for my armour. |

Posted on 08 October 2015 at 21:25:34 GMT I do find the Vallejo can muddy the model a bit... I have some flow enhancer that may help. |

Posted on 08 October 2015 at 22:00:27 GMT I use Army Painter inks for washes. Diluted about 10:1 they flow nicely into all the recesses. Strong tone is the best (muddy) but dark tone works well (nearly black). Soft tone is great on desert vehicles. Cheers, Andy |

Posted on 08 October 2015 at 23:23:38 GMT I put a single drop of airbrush flow enhancer and I use the acrylic paint thinners from Hobbycraft (the artists medium stuff in a yellow and white bottle, it's quite expensive, but lasts years as you dilute it c. 20:1 with tap water). This flows nicely and collects in the recesses of the models really well. Cheers, Andy |

Posted on 09 October 2015 at 10:22:18 GMT I tend to count in drops from the bottle, so would add one drop of flow enhancer to up to 10 drops of ink - it's just enough to break the surface tension and make the ink flow, then dilute anything up to about 10:1 with water that I've added the acrylic thinners to. For faces on 20mm figures I tend to use almost neat ink (just the flow enhancer added) as I like the slightly haunted/battle fatigued look it gives to the faces (like is probably too emotive there - the appearance of the 1000 yard stare seems most realistic, along with lots of grime). For 6mm gear, 10:1 dilution blends the colours on the model and fills in the recesses (dark tone for dark greens and greys, strong tone for lighter greens/greys or really muddy vehicles and soft tone for desert vehicles. If you want a really muddy effect or a deeply contrasting scheme then use a less dilute ink. Cheers, Andy |

Posted on 09 October 2015 at 21:30:10 GMT I don't dilute inkts with water any more. I now use glaze medium and put in on in layers until I'm satisfied. I even dilute my AK interactive paints with it a great medium to thin your paints. |
