I think they do look really good, but I can't completely understand the reason for so many models being so close togetherShock It reminds a bit of the old days of fighting ancient battles with lines and lines facing each other across the width of the board. It looks fun and I would perhaps join inGrin

Terrain looks great. The bases look crowded due to the 1:1 figure scale vs the 1cm = 100m ground scale. At that ground scale each company is occupying a battalion attack frontage.

Whilst I heartily approve of the idea of collecting an entire Combined Arms Army at 1:1 scale, I'd play at 1 model:1 company, and base as battalions...

He's got a set of bat reps up where he's using the stands as platoons - looks really good like that!

There were tanks in those pictures? I thought they were all pictures of the terrain.

It does look a bit like moving the terrain tiles around!

Hey guys, glad some of you like them.

Obviously though, 1/600 is not some people's cup of tea. That's fine, each to his own.Smile Personally, I love them. And my counter-argument would be that I now think single-model platoon (or company, or battalion) based games look too much like skirmish games to me. So it's down to personal taste I suppose.

Just to comment on a couple of the other points raised:

I've now gone back to using platoon basing, and 1" = 100m ground scale, as seen in the last few battle reports.

Fair enough comment on the number of vehicles in my RED ("not-Sov", as someone called them) tank platoons. But whilst it may look a little strange, It was a compromise I deliberately made forthe following reasons.

The armies are for near-future 'what-if' scenarios. So the background for my RED army is that it has its basis in Soviet doctrine and equipment, but like most modern armies, it is modernising. This means adopting 'western' nomenclature, organisation, and in some cases equipment.

I try to base my platoons in 1/600 with 1:1 vehicles , and I include Company command vehicles as attached to platoon stands (I don't have separate company-command and XO vehicles). So vehicle platoons have either 4 or 5 vehicles to the platoon. In a normal company, I include the Company OC on one platoon base, and the Company XO on another. So two out of three bases would have 5 vehicles, and the third platoon 4 vehicles.

For simplicity and flexibility I just made every platoon base comprise 5 vehicles. This has the added bonus of being able to only use two stands per company in historical lists for rules where 10-vehicle companies are represented by two half-companies (eg. MSH and FFT). So I like to think there's method behind my madness!

In any case, one reason why I play imagi-nations forces is that I can design them and no-one can say they're wrong - who knows if the REDs use 5-vehicle platoons?!

Anyway, good gaming to all.

The ones in the latest Battle Reports (ie my campaign armies) have taken 3-4 months to do. Mind you, I haven't been working particularly hard on them (maybe an hour every second night). They are surprisingly easy to paint. One day I'll put a painting guide on the blog I think.

The forces shown in the first few battle reports are also only a fraction of what I've done too. I also have Aussies, USMC, UK and Singapore forces for the campaign, as well as other Red formations...Grin

Ah ha, I wondered at those extra vehicles!

Yeah, I really like the terrain and the numbers of vehicles on the stands as a CWC/MSH/FFT level game, it was just a bit much on the first huge game. kind of took away from the sheer scale and made it look like a sixty mile carpark. Or "the M6" as it's known locally Wink

If I didn't alreayd have no money, no time and a dozen othe rprojects I never get to finish let alone play with I'd love to go into one to one 3mm at your current/newer level, or operational level "battalion" stands (probably Megablitz). The O8 stuff is very nice.

O8 stuff is superb. Truly amazing -beautiful, cheap, and small. small as every modern wargaming stuff should be. small as needed by a real tabletop army Smile (it's not an O8 promo however Grin ) just I'm happy that I can build armies with a look of an army!

Usually basing takes more time than painting a platoon..
