Afternoon all

ive gotaround 2000 6mm tanks/apcs/trucks etc to base and i do like the mdf but given the quantities would be a tad expensive. Anybody used 2mm perspex at all - cost is about 2-3p for a 40mmx25mm base

cheers

Haven't used perspex but have used vinyl floor tiles from pound shops. A pack of 8 tiles makes over 700 40mm x 20mm bases for £1.00.

Hi Al,

I use mounting board - 1250 micron (aka 1.25mm). A pack of 10 A1 (c590mmx840mm) sheets is about £20 from Viking-Direct. I use 30mm x 30mm bases for my thousands of 6mm units ... but I think you know that

What material is the board-wooden, card?
Plastic card is my material of choice-40thousandth. Perspex may well be similar? Cutting with a Stanley knife, then snapping. Though some non-precise results, edges don't fray like card/carton or sawing like wood. The mdf can be cut with Stanley too though.

I too use plastic card (styrene) for 6mm vehicles & infantry, 1mm thick which I think is close to 40-thou in old money Smile

I find it is very robust & easy to work (as edenviews says, score & snap, never had a single problem). I use black styrene, slightly harder to get hold of but less obtrusive for chips etc.

I have also used 2mm white styrene for 1:3000 ship models, needs a bit more brute force but still snaps very cleanly along score lines once I get my courage up to bend it hard enoughSmile

A while ago I made a large (4x5 foot) cover for boardgame maps out of an old piece of perspex, I had to saw it which was a bugger. Result was acceptable, but a long way from 'professional-looking'...

Cheers,

Pete
