Our basing is mostly a hangover from Spearhead, so all the 'fighting stands' are on 30mm square. I use 40mm square for HQs and 50mm square for CO stands. I then have some stuff like recce, AA or ATGW on pennies.

Hope that helps - most things fit OK but some of the really big AFVs or those with long barrels poke over the edges and need careful handling.

CWC has recommendations for basing. However, other rule sytems have their suggestions for basing. If there is any sort of modern or WWII gaming with micro armour going on in your area, find out what size of basing their using and go with that. Keeps it all same on the board.

I'm new to CwC and I have the same issue, what size how many models on a base. My mate does 3 tanks, apcs etc on a base the guys at the club just use 1. Per base.
Round ,square ! Videos on you tube just show 1 per round base looks like a 5pence piece

I go with 30mm sq (also a hangover from Spearhead) but tend to go with 30x40 for bigger tanks such as the T-28 or T-35 - they never looked right on the 30mm sq bases. Having paired armies also helps as everything ends up based the same avoiding any base size issues.

I generally use 40mmX30mm for basic units and I prefer round markers for my HQ/CO figures - 30mm and 40mm respectively.

I'm now doing 1/600 scale stuff and decided to go with a larger base, as I represent platoons at a 1:1 scale on the bases.

Are you using 1/300th (6mm) models e.g. from GHQ and H&R? If so more than one per base looks crowded unless you have really big bases (IMO).

If using 1/600th e.g. Oddzial Ozmy, then multiple vehicles per base looks very cool - either 2-3 or at 1:1 for platoon Smile

30x40 for vehicles
40x40 for HQ
50mm hex for CO
then had some specials made up from Warbases for the rest
Air defence is a semicircle with a sqaure base
Recce are 30,40 with 60 degree chamfered edges
FAO/FAC are 40x40 with the front egde chamgered at 30 degrees

Co's have Command vehicle and a couple of hangers on.

I use 30mm squares for most 'fighting stands'.

Big tanks (like my Challenger Is) get an extra 1cm depth to try to protect their gun barrels when in transit/storage.

I put one 1/300th AFV model per base except for jeep/Land Rover style stuff - where I use two models.

Infantry teams are typically 4 or 5 minis per 30mm square base.

Overall HQ is a 'mini-diorama' with HQ vehicles, radio trucks etc. on 40mm or 50mm circular base.

Ordinary command/Hq stands are on 30mm circular bases.

FAOs and FACs on 20mm/25mm circular bases for easy ID.

Ok I'm using GHQ 6 mm and your right looks a bit over crowded ,like the idea of slightly longer base on my T-80s for barrel protection
