Those look excellent. Again! Smile

Two quick questions:

What make/colour do you use for the Israelis?

What make are the trees you use?

Cheers

Andy,
colours are as follows:

For my 1979- present day stuff.

They are undercoated white, then a thinned Humbrol Khaki Drill 072 which is applied as a thick wash allowing some natural highlighting where the wash is thinner. Once dry I use Mig productions Dark Wash which I leave on for 10-15 minutes then remove with a brush dampened with clean thinner - the idea is to push the dark wash into the nooks and cranies and lift it off the large flat areas. Once this has dried I then drybrush with the base colour lightened with a touch of white.

The early 1967/73 stuff.

Again a white undercoat with a thinned colour wash of a colour made from 85% Humbrol 083 Ochre + 15% Humbrol 117 US Green and a touch of white to taste. In my case based on a 17ml tinlet (Humbrol) 11.9mls of 083 + 2.1mls of 117 and 2.8mls of white (I know that is not 17mls in total )Huh?

The idea is to have the colour thin enough to stain the white undercoat, but not too thin that it does not cover high points.

Once the base coat is dry a thinned coat of Mig Productions Dark wash, left on for a few minutes then 'brushed off'.
Finally a drybrush of the base colour with a little white added.

I alwas drybrush with the original base colour lightened, using a different colour does not look right to me.

There is further information on this site, I've modified my methods from those mentioned here for single dark colours.

Hope this helps?

Thanks for that Andy. A very comprehensive answer. I tend to be an acrylic person so not sure how the techniques would translate but I might give it a go as I like the result.

I need to pick up some flow enhancer as well.

What make are the trees on your bases? They look quite effective.

Thanks again...

Andy, the technique works with acrylics as my pal uses these on his micro stuff.
The wash (Mig) does not effect the base colours and its removed with turpentine (not the turps substitute).
Its probably safer as the Mig wash is turps/enamel based and does not react with the acrylics; it may do with the enamel base coat if you are not careful.

I actually bake my models in the oven when undercoated and again when base coated, gives a nice hard and smooth coat.

Trees
The trees are photo etched brass affairs from these folks.
http://themodeltreeshop.co.uk/etched-brass-tree...

They are quite two dimensional so I add small pieces of wire/plastic rod to the trunks/large branches - I then blended this in with a little liquid green stuff and then painted the trunks back up.

Davis613,
thanks for the comments.
The cam netting on the command stand - I presume we are talking about the one in the trees? The cam net is made from a Tea-bag..I cut the tea-bag material to the required size then dip it in watered down PVA glu. I use tea-bag material (whatever it is) as it does not turn into mush when the pva is applied like kitchen/toilet roll can. Its easily shaped and holds its shape well. The foliage is Scenic effects Fine Turf applied when it is still wet, then when dry its just a case of painting. I have used dried herbs/tea leaves in the past to simulate cam nets; if you look on my blog and look at the Scimitar/Mastiff entries you will find a 'how-to' for the cam nets.

regards
Andrew
