Hiya,

Can any kind soul out there give me any clues how I might paint DPM on 6mm H&R figures?

I was thinking a base coat using Vallejo colours of tan yellow, dry brush a red brown (probably saddle brown) then a lighter brush of luftwaffe camo green. The Mk4 helmets and webbing/pouches in khaki and boots in black. The SLRs with black stock and grip.

any better ideas on colours?

regards

I've always painted mine in Vallejo American Uniform Green as 1980's British NATO forces spent 90% of their time in NBC suits which at the time weren't available in DPM.

Saves an awful lot of extra effort!

Now that sounds like a good plan! And might speed up getting my CWC Brits on the table!

I just paint DPM as a 'splurge' of wet brush dabbed onto the figure's base coat to create some different coloured blobs. At arms length it looks decent enough Wink

Paint a farily light green, and dry brush with a red brown.

I just paint them Dark Green, as when it rains (which it did on exercise a lot!!) the DPM goes dark.

There was a stock of DPM paint, but it was taken as a cost saving by the MoD.

Is there any chance some of those who've highlighted their methods could link to a suitable picture please?

Well, I followed the steps below for GHQ figs. Link to pic below.

1. primed in white
2. sprayed in green. The green I chose is similar to Vallejo Flat Green. I tried with German Camo Bright Green but it was too bright. The white undercoat was good enough to get a brighter green.
3. splash Vallejo Dark Sand or Desert Yellow on about a third of the fig.
4. splash Vallejo Beige Brown covering about a third of the fig.
5. with a very fine brush, apply black fine stripes (zigzag), especially where the other colours meet.
6. paint webbing (khaki), backpack, rifle and so on...

Keep in mind that green should be the dominant colour when you apply the sand, brown and then black.

I hope this helps.
Good luck with your project mate.

They look good! Sadly, mine look pale beige with a hint of brown and green! I knew I shouldn't have highlighted them!Sad

Well, they will get a game next Friday. I will post a report.

Freddy,

Maybe you could try to add thin black stripes on the beige where beige meets brown or green. That will darken the fig a bit and take some of the dominant colour away.
