Had my first game of CWC today and I suspect I now have the bug.

Looking on the GHQ site they only have packs, but I got the impression they do sell individual models at a higher price.

Any idea how I find out about this?

Use another manufacturer, Heroics and Ros and Scotia both do single vehicles at reasonable costs.

The GHQ stuff is very nice but not cheap, and even less so when you order 'bits'. I've used them for my Desert stuff and my Syrians but used Skytrex for my massed T55/54s as they are the same size and match well.

Most of my GHQ I've bought via eBay at half or less than retail as it makes it more affordable. But if you're not dead set on GHQ then I would go for Skytrex,Scotia and H&R as they have some excellent models

I have all GHQ / CinC these days. They are superb, and easy to paint due to plenty of detail, but pricey as mentioned above.

If you want "spares/singles" you have to order direct from GHQ , and they are priced per hull or turret, etc so they work out VERY expensive.
see the faq, about halfway down:

http://www.ghqmodels.com/pages/military/faq.asp

What can be better is to order a pack and then ebay any spares to recover some money.

Steveus, Thanks for that.

If I am going to do an army for CWC, I would want to use the best models.
I have a war chest from some stuff I have sold so happy to invest it in CWC.

Do your likely opponents share your enthusiasm for GHQ? Thats the only problem with going 1/285th, it looks a bit odd if all your opponents have 1/300th.

http://www.pfc-cinc.com/front_page.html is another 1/285 manufacturer. They sell in packs also, but tend to have three or four vehicles per pack. Price per vehicle is $1.50 per vehicle compared to GHQ $2.00 per vehicle. It is best to compare the photos on both websites as there are some differences. GHQ also has a more extensive line. I usually use Heroics and Ros infantry as they tend to have a better mix of weapon types in their packs and still work well with GHQ.

If you are ordering from the USA, http://www.warweb.com/micro-armour-modern-unite... sells GHQ at a discount. Check if in stock and shipping costs.

Hi,

I an one of Rupert's opponents and my forces (West German and Soviet) are GHQ Tanks and IFVs with H&R infantry and support vehicles. The GHQ and H&R stuff seem to mix well enough to my eye.

If I am going to spend the effort and time selecting, painting, basing etc, and they are going to last me 15 - 20+ years gaming, then I am going to buy the best models available.

I don't want to be looking at them in 5 years time regretting my parsimony because I chose to save a tiny fraction of the overall cost (figs + paint + time + basing) and ended up with models that are not good enough to spare my blushes.

Depends what you think 'best' means.
I often hear that GHQ are so detailed etc - from my perspective they seem overdetailed for the scale. You shouldn't be able to see a lot of the detail they feel is obligatory to include.

As a result they end up with bolt heads the size of soup plates, grille bars the width of surf boards and hooks and hawsers that would do justice to 1/160th models.

It makes them look weird to my eyes - so H&R are 'best' for me - but you may like the 'impressionist' version of GHQ with overscale detail - and that is fine - just so you know they aren't necessarily the most accurate models just because they include a lot of twiddly bits.
