I'm thinking of starting a project about 4 CMBG about c.1985.

So far, I've heard that H&R make good models at a fair price, but since they don't offer a preview of their models, what would be more appropriate for Canadian Infantry in the Early 80s to early 90s.

I'm thinking of US infantry with old style helmet for Canadians equipped with C7s and Old style Brit Infantry (Canadian Forces Reserve Regiments equipped with the SLR).

Are these appropriate or are there better options out there?

Thats what I have done for my Canadians, using H&R figures which look terrific for the price, US infantry with old style helmets, with the M16/C7. When I went over to Ontario in 1992 the reserve forces all had C7's, when did they change from the goood old SLR?

Canada did not use the C7 or C9 until 1988(Regs)-1990(Reserve), so SLR (FNC1 and FNC2 SAR) for c.1985. C5 Browning MG was replaced by the MAG 58 (C6) GPMG about the same time (1988-89). We didn't go to the C7A1 (with Elcan scope) until 1996-97.

But you are working in 6mm, so I think as long as the helmet looks right... I think we went to the Kevlar helmet around 1993-94, so the US style steel pot before that.

I have purchased some Main Force Canadian Cold War infantry figs from Noble Miniatures in Wisconsin. 5 Cmd, 11 Inf sects, 14 LMGs, 14 SMAW/LAWs and 3 inf SAMs for around $18. They are almost all in the prone on bases, and I will mix them with old GHQ figs I already have.

I believe that Cueball used GHQ Vietnam US infantry for his Canucks!

Like Brian said, at that scale I really doubt you'd notice the difference between an FNC1A1 and a C7. Old US style steel pots and OD combat uniforms (not CADPAT) with 64 pattern webbing and no body armour would be the norm for the time period.

If I ever get the time from painting up my 4 CMBG, and building terrain (and other less important tasks such as work and Christmas shopping) I'll finish scanning all my old pics and post a link here for reference material.

Edit/add:

CJ, The entire CF began the switch from FN to the C7/C8/C9 (& C6 GPMG) in 88-89 IIRC. Fronty line units such as the Airborne and 4 CMBG went first, then the various regular units and schools and then reserve formations moving east to west.

I went through SARP (Small Arms Replacment Training) at the Infantry School in the summer of 1988. I transferred up to the Tor Scots in the fall of that year and they still had FNs. We switched over the following year.

Ironically some of the new recruits that had undergone summer training in 1988 had only been trained on the new weapons. We had to give them a crash course on the FNs in the fall of 1988., similar to the quick conversion course I ran you guys through in 92.

I`ve got the american infantry in the old style helmets for my canadians and would defy anyone to identify what rifle they were carrying. Don`t matter in 6mm they`re too wee to notice.
