Can anyone give me advice as to whether the H&R 6mm minatures are any good? I have only be able to find a few not to good photos of them. They seem to be a good bit cheaper than GHQ, but would rather not waste money on them if they are not a fairly good standard.

You get what you pay for - they are no where near as cleanly cast and detailed as GHQ.

Should help you make up your mind if GHQ are worth 3 x H&R Grin

They are OK, not up to the standards of GHQ for sure, but certainly good enough. The vehicles are a little "blobified" but certainly OK. I mignt consider using different infantry, though, as the H&R ones are quite poor.

The early infantry was indeed very basic but workable, in th mid 80's some were re-modelled to a better standard and new stuff from then on was far better. My experience was with the WW2 stuff mainly, I would imagine that the Brits with SA80's etc would be of the improved style though. I would use H&R inf if possible with their vehicles as other manufacturers would probably tower over them.

Many thanks for the info, they are the only ones I have found so far that do Canadian Grizzly's and Lynx APC's as I was going to try and put together a 1980's candian battlegroup. may have to rethink a few things.

My collection is mostly H&R. I have to admit that individually, when viewed from a couple of inches away, they are not as pretty models as GHQ. when viewed at 'table-top' distances (i.e. from 3 or 4ft away) I doubt anyone can tell the difference.

I suspect that a lot of the GHQ 'detail' (like rivets etc .)is way 'over-scale' and probably should not be visible on such small models! This makes GHQ models 'sort of cartoony' to my thinking. Then there's the cost factor - they are lovely, but how much per model?

Finally, and the clincher for me really, is that H&R sell me what I want to buy not packs that they want to sell! I know that you can order single models from GHQ but it's not as simple as just ordering from H&R.

I've got a mix of Scotia, H&R and some old Navwar and it all depends on budget. GHQ and CnC are very good models but if your a megalomaniac like me I just couldn't afford to field the quantity and variety of units I currently do.

The newer models are in my opinion very nice and have enough detail for the scale, they are also readily identifiable on the table which is what really matters.

The Wargames Emporium website is a work in progress apparently; the C in C moderns are stocked (although they do say that C in C are notoriously difficult to get stock from, for some reason).

John from W.E. said that the intention was to run both websites until the new one was complete, but the gremlins got in.

I wanted some C in C at Colours; the dismounted TOW team looks luvverly!

(PS, 99% of my infantry is GHQ because its just so nice!)

Why not order direct from the company?

http://www.pfc-cinc.com/front_page.html

They will ship internationally. They charge the actual postage needed to send it to you. Also, the website has a link to the USPS website so you can estimate the postage.

All the modern stuff I have acquired recently has been H&R, Scotia or Skytrex. They are nice models (mostly!) and look fine on the table. To me, the GHQ is too exaggerated. It is very nice and looks good on the table but it's not worth the extra expense for me. Plus, it would all be bigger than what I have...

Just got a message back from wargames emporium they do stock the moderns and have reasonable postage rate so will be ordering some later today. Someone I know has also just bought some scotia and is very happy with them. Will go for the C-in-C to start with and work my way through to see which I like best. Many thanks to you all for your advice its been a great help.

Oddly enough i emailed Wargames Emporium with the same question last night.

They are apparently updating their website in the next 7 days to include the CinC modern stuff.

'VAT, Import duty and handling fees if you get pinged depending on the amount you buy.'

My last 3 orders from the states were intercepted by HM Customs. Even though they were clearly labelled as to the contents, a private sale, and most importantly the value of the contents, (being under a certain amount they don't accrue import tax) I was still charged £18, £22 and £11 respectively to get my stuff.

Outraged? You f*cking bet I was!Angry

Naturally, the HMRC appeals phoneline never gets answered.

So, its Magister and W.E. from now on.

One of the Book traders at Colours had several copies; thought I may get a fresh copy 'cos mine has been well thumbed. (but I succumbed to other impulse buys)

Can't remember who though. They were on the Ground Floor, near the entrance between the Critical Mass demo game and GZG. In work at the mo, so can't get to my show program. I'll have a look later.

Have you tried Caliver?

I've got the Lulu FWC and if you just want the rules it is fine (I got it when they had a 25% off deal). No pretty cover. All interior pictures are B/W and lower quality. Suits me fine but I'd like to have the full one and may treat myself one day!

All my figures are H&R. I'm selling off all my c-in-c and GHQ and redoing WWII exclusively with their figures. Andy at H&R has provided me with great support and, in my humble opinion, the figures are fantastic for the price.

If you'd like a peek at their stuff painted these are all H&R

Consider it free advertising, but you'll get your money's worth with H&R.
